Vallozzi’s Pittsburgh Announces 4th Annual White Truffle Dinner

The white truffle of Alba, or the Tuber magnatum pico, has been known and used by man for centuries. During the Roman period, white truffles were believed to contain divine powers, related to the cult of lightning, and were known for their therapeutic and aphrodisiacal properties derived from the god Jupiter. In the Middle Ages, the discovery of white truffles was associated with the dance of witches.

Today, White Truffles are the quintessence of Piemontese gastronomy during their brief appearance each year in the late fall, and nothing accentuates the ethereal aromas of white truffles like Barolo, the King of all of Piedmont’s Nebbiolo wines.

In celebration of white truffle season, Chef Michael Wedge will prepare a five-course meal while exploring the terroir of Barolo through the wines of Damilano.  Ambassadors of Barolo, Damilano explores the vast and nuanced expression of Nebbiolo, the pinnacle of which are their single vineyard Barolo crus.

Special Guest James Hutton, Mid-Atlantic Regional Director of Vias Imports, will walk us through the vineyards of Piedmont and will feature three of Damilano’s single vineyard crus – Cerequio, la Liste and Cannubi – all from the excellent 2012 vintage.
